“J” started as a volunteer at Kate’s Kitchen for general service in May 2014. She was worried that her long term condition of chronic fatigue would hinder her as a volunteer. She was introduced to the team, filled in relevant paperwork and had an induction. She started as a general worker, but within 3 weeks had advanced to a ‘befriended’ role.
She had her first support and supervision with the volunteer coordinator in July 2014. This is where, through probing questions, it became apparent that she would like a role within the funding aspect of the organisation. After this, ‘J’ was invited by the Secretary of the Board to become a Trustee with the role of Fundraiser. JS accepted this offer and her first Board meeting was on 18th September. J says, “KK is very well organised and thinks of their volunteers. We are kept in the loop as there is good communication. I feel guided, supported, encouraged and there is great 1 to 1 support”.« Read More Stories
